We have Sherri Perry with Sherri Perry Ministries, Inc in Bella Vista, Arkansas, and these interviews have two main focuses.

00:37 – 00:51
Brock
First we’re going to address anyone that could use Sherri Parrish Ministries Services and then we’ll be addressing any potential, either entrepreneurs or organizers that would like to perhaps start something like this or maybe get involved.

00:52 – 00:53
Brock
So Sherri, how are you doing today?

00:54 – 00:56
Sherri
I’m doing great, doing awesome.

00:56 – 00:56
Sherri
I’m.

00:56 – 00:57
Brock
So glad you’re here.

00:57 – 00:58
Brock
Thanks for joining us.

00:59 – 01:00
Brock
And taking the time to share.

01:01 – 01:06
Brock
Let’s start with, how long have you been doing Sheri Perry Ministries?

01:07 – 01:09
Sherri
It’s 2015.

01:09 – 01:10

Brock
Ok.

01:10 – 01:16
Sherri
Yeah, Yeah, really wasn’t anything on my radar, It wasn’t anything that we had planned.

01:16 – 01:21
Sherri
When I say we, I mean, my husband and I live here in Bella Vista, we had jobs.

01:21 – 01:22
Sherri
We were working.

01:23 – 01:24
Sherri
Everything was great.

01:25 – 01:29
Sherri
We got here before retirement, so we can enjoy the community.

01:29 – 01:35
Sherri
And in 2015 I sang someone’s song in our church.

01:35 – 01:38
Sherri
And I had known them since, well.

01:39 – 01:41
Sherri
They knew my family before I was even born.

01:41 – 01:42
Brock
Ok.

01:42 – 01:44
Sherri
And they sent me to Nashville, though.

01:44 – 01:45
Sherri
Oh.

01:45 – 01:49
Brock
Ok, OK, well let’s let’s start with who do you serve?

01:49 – 01:52
Brock
Or who does Sherri Perry’s ministries help in Northwest Arkansas?

01:53 – 02:05
Sherri
Well, just to kinda lighten the mood, I have been the one to sing the Star-Spangled Banner at the weenie dog races here in Bella Vista.

02:08 – 02:13
Sherri
I’ve sange the star-spangled banner for some golf tournaments and for some charities down here.

02:13 – 02:16
Sherri
Also, sang at the Natural’s game…

02:17 – 02:23
Sherri
…when they had a Parkinson’s night. My mom and some family members are Parkinson’s patients.

02:24 – 02:26
Sherri
So, I do that.

02:26 – 02:41
Sherri
I do go out and do charity events to help people raise money, and for things that I believe in, but the main thing is, you know, I’m looking for events or churches, that will let me come share music, and a little word with them.

02:41 – 02:45
Sherri
If, you know, whatever they want, five minutes or fifty minutes.

02:51 – 02:51
Sherri
That’s it.
Sorry, that was my doorbell.

02:51 – 02:53
Brock
That’s Ok, this is what this is all about, We’re real people we’re just trying to make changes here in Northwest Arkansas.

02:56 – 02:56
Brock
That’s awesome.

02:59 – 03:04
Brock
Now then, so what I’m hearing is you know you come in, you provide this awesome value. You sing.

03:04 – 03:08
Brock
You also provide a message if they would like to do that as well.

03:09 – 03:20
Brock
And you just make a an event whether it fits like a, I’m going to say like another you actually you tell me what other events and things do you actually serve and been involved in?

03:21 – 03:25
Sherri
Um, I’ve been involved with parades.

03:25 – 03:25
Brock
Ok.

03:26 – 03:41
Sherri
My Hometown of Carthage, Missouri In the Maple Leaf Parade and then around the square after the parade when they have vendors and other people there I’ve gone in and actually performed. I’m trying to think what else …

03:41 – 03:43
Sherri
Sarcoxie Missouri has Chiefs Sarcoxie Days…

03:43 – 03:52
Sherri
is a community event where they bring in a little Carnaval, and they have vendors there, and so I go provide the music for them.

03:53 – 04:01
Sherri
Things that I had, there’s a small church that didn’t have anybody to do music, so they called me, and I, I went and did that for them, so.

04:03 – 04:04
Brock
Awesome, OK.

04:05 – 04:06
Brock
So, tell me, tell me how it works.

04:06 – 04:17
Brock
Someone says, Hey, we really need someone to come in to sing or, you know, provide a message like, how do they either get in contact with you or, you know, work with you to make that happen?

04:18 – 04:21
Sherri
Then go to www dot Sherri Perry dot com Sherri with an I

04:21 – 04:24
Sherri
Perry with a Y. They can catch me on Facebook.

04:24 – 04:27
Sherri
I’m my Personal and Sherri Smith Perry.

04:27 – 04:32
Sherri
Then I have a Sherri Perry Ministries page as well as a group.

04:32 – 04:38
Sherri
So they can reach me there or they can call me 479-544-0150 or text.

04:39 – 04:39
Sherri
Or text.

04:39 – 04:42
Brock
Ok, fantastic with, that’s super open.

04:42 – 04:45
Brock
I love that. That’s going to be helpful for anybody there.

04:47 – 04:55
Brock

Ok, awesome, well, let’s let’s, I think we’re gonna get more out of talking to more about your story and kind of where you kind of come from and why you’re doing this.

04:55 – 04:58
Brock
So, what made you want to start this non-profit.

04:59 – 05:01
Sherri
Um, really, a.

05:01 – 05:04
Brock
Normal lives before, And then all of a sudden in 2015 “hey, I need to do something different”.

05:06 – 05:06
Brock
Tell me how that started.

05:07 – 05:10
Sherri
Yeah, we both have jobs, just doing what everybody does.

05:10 – 05:11
Sherri
You know?

05:11 – 05:11
Sherri
You get up.

05:12 – 05:15
Sherri
You go to work, you come home, you go to church on the weekend, and repeat.

05:15 – 05:15

Sherri
You know?

05:17 – 05:24
Sherri
And I was invited to sing in an Easter presentation in Rogers, Arkansas, in 2015.

05:24 – 05:28
Sherri
And I sang a song that I have known in my entire life. I’m a preacher’s kid.

05:28 – 05:29
Sherri
So church is all I know.

05:31 – 05:32
Sherri
Not that I’m perfect.

05:33 – 05:35
Sherri
It’s not the case at all.

05:36 – 05:39
Sherri
But on the way home, I was like, where did that song come from?

05:40 – 05:44
Sherri
And so I did what everybody else did, I Googled…couldn’t find it there.

05:44 – 06:01
Sherri
So then I went to Facebook and I found the daughter of the evangelists that I heard sing this song when I was a little girl and I had just kept singing it because as a preacher it when your dad’s the Preacher, and he says I want you to sing the song, you just sing it.

06:02 – 06:06
Sherri
So, um, I contacted them, they were in their eighties at the time.

06:06 – 06:10
Sherri
They came down to Bella Vista, we visited for a weekend.

06:10 – 06:13
Sherri
She heard me sing, and she said, I can’t sing anymore.

06:13 – 06:17
Sherri
I can’t travel anymore, I’ve written over 600 songs, and I want them to keep going.

06:18 – 06:20
Sherri
So would you go to Nashville and record

06:20 – 06:21
Sherri
my songs?

06:22 – 06:24
Sherri
I mean, you talk about it wasn’t on my bucket list.

06:24 – 06:26
Sherri
It wasn’t on my radar at all.

06:27 – 06:33
Sherri
And then when she said, Listen, when, when you have an opportunity, we’re gonna go to Nash, we’re going to call Nashville.

06:33 – 06:35
Sherri
See if we know anybody there anymore?

06:36 – 06:40
Sherri
And when you do something, you need to give back.

06:40 – 06:49
Sherri
So I found a couple of groups that have needs, that are supported by donations.

06:49 – 06:54

Sherri
And so, I get to those, those organizations as well, because they’re dear to my heart.

06:55 – 07:01
Sherri
I had to really search and, and look and think, you know, who are the, the ones that don’t get federal funding?

07:01 – 07:04
Sherri
Who are the ones that rely on donors?

07:04 – 07:17
Sherri
So, I’ve, I’ve been able to do that and I’ve always kept in my head, they told me, don’t go to Nashville and think you’re something else because you’re not, go to Nashville your Sheri.

07:17 – 07:19
Sherri
When you come home, you’re Sherri.

07:19 – 07:24
Sherri
So that has been something that has been has kept me grounded, I guess.

07:25 – 07:27
Sherri
Though 2015 was crazy.

07:28 – 07:30
Sherri
But it’s wonderful.

07:30 – 07:32
Sherri
I did things that I never dreamed of.

07:33 – 07:47
Sherri
And then I just out of last February right before COVID hit, I was I signed with an agent that reached out to me from Nashville so I signed with them for two years now, because COVID.

07:48 – 07:49
Brock
Yeah.

07:49 – 07:51
Brock
I was about to ask, like, how did COVID go?

07:51 – 07:52
Brock
Like.

07:52 – 07:53
Sherri
With all of us, I’m sure it was.

07:53 – 07:54
Brock
Slower.

07:54 – 07:54
Sherri
Or maybe.

07:54 – 07:55
Brock
You were more busy at.

07:55 – 07:56
Brock
I don’t know.

07:56 – 07:57
Sherri
They shut down.

07:57 – 08:00
Sherri
I mean, churches shut down.

08:01 – 08:13
Sherri
You know, when a pastor can have people in their church, why bring in a singer when he can, know, when he can use social media to reach, is regular listeners?

08:13 – 08:18
Sherri
So, yeah, all my events, most, I should say, most by events were canceled.

08:18 – 08:19
Sherri
I think I had three events last year.

08:20 – 08:20
Brock
Yeah.

08:21 – 08:25
Sherri
And one of, one of them was before COVID.

08:27 – 08:31
Sherri
It was, it was something that nobody saw coming.

08:31 – 08:36
Sherri
So I was prepared for it, but it did give me the opportunity to go back to Nashville.

08:37 – 08:48
Sherri
But going back to record, my new album was rescheduled several times, like, we’re talking five or six times, because of COVID.

08:49 – 08:49
Sherri
No words.

08:50 – 08:57
Sherri
They wanted to be in the studios working, but they couldn’t. If they couldn’t get a session Or if they had no.

08:57 – 08:58
Sherri
So.

08:59 – 08:59

Brock
Yeah.

08:59 – 09:06
Brock
So, what other pivots, you know, did you make you find yourself in a situation where you couldn’t really do what you used to be able to do?

09:06 – 09:11
Brock
You’re trying to do this, you know, recording you know, I guess, how did you overcome

09:11 – 09:12
Brock
The challenge is kinda press forward.

09:12 – 09:13
Brock
What, what happened?

09:14 – 09:14
Sherri
Yeah.

09:14 – 09:25
Sherri
I just honestly, not everybody will want to hear this but honestly I just prayed and I just said here we are, I don’t, I don’t know what else to do, so who do you go to?

09:25 – 09:26
Sherri
Go to God

09:27 – 09:38
Sherri
And he just opened some doors and of course when I do events, most of the time they just, they just give me a love offering us what they call it.

09:38 – 09:39
Sherri
They don’t, I don’t charge for tickets.

09:39 – 09:44

Sherri
I don’t say, here’s my base, now I have to have this much before I come.

09:46 – 09:50
Sherri
Though I take what comes in, and I sell CDs, and that’s it.

09:50 – 09:50
Sherri
You know?

09:52 – 09:57
Sherri
So I did an out of, I shouldn’t say out of the blue, but I don’t know what else.

09:58 – 10:11
Sherri
One other term to use, but someone in, in Northwest Arkansas, Bella Vista actually called and said, I want to give you some money.

10:12 – 10:13
Brock
Oh wow.

10:13 – 10:13
Sherri
There you.

10:13 – 10:13
Brock
Go.

10:13 – 10:14
Brock
And.

10:14 – 10:22
Sherri
They showed up at my house, an honest to Pete It was exactly the amount I needed to finish my recording in Nashville.

10:23 – 10:23
Brock
Oh.

10:23 – 10:23
Sherri
Yeah.

10:24 – 10:25
Sherri
Do the penny.

10:25 – 10:26
Sherri
Literally.

10:28 – 10:39
Sherri
Yeah, that’s, sometimes, things just happen, and you have to be thankful for them and, and be, be wise, with what …

10:40 – 10:42
Sherri
And just so.

10:42 – 10:46
Brock
I don’t want to speak for everyone, but I particularly don’t necessarily believe in consequences.

10:46 – 10:48
Brock
So, I think everything happens.

10:48 – 10:48
Sherri
For a reason.

10:48 – 10:49
Brock
So, awesome.

10:51 – 10:53
Brock
So, right now, things are starting to kind of open back up.

10:53 – 10:56
Brock
Things are moving forward, what’s kinda, what are you doing?

10:56 – 10:57
Brock
What’s your number one way of

10:57 – 11:01
Brock
You know, getting bookings and getting yourself out there.

11:01 – 11:02
Brock
What are you doing right now?

11:02 – 11:07
Sherri
Well, right now, actually, tomorrow, I’m leaving for Nashville.

11:07 – 11:10
Sherri
Gonna go down, down with my agent.

11:10 – 11:12
Sherri
We’re going to work out a plan.

11:13 – 11:23
Sherri
I just had my new CD arrive at the house, and tomorrow it’s going to be available, you’ll be able to download it on i-Tunes, Amazon, and Spotify, and I-Heart, and all those places.

11:24 – 11:32
Sherri
I have a friend in Branson, and who walked, who wrote a song called War Room after he saw the movie, and allowed me to, to record it.

11:32 – 11:34
Sherri
So that’s, that’s my new project.

11:35 – 11:38
Sherri
Many are saying, and played on it with me, so I’m really proud of it.

11:38 – 11:39
Sherri
So I’m going to go to Nashville.

11:41 – 11:43
Sherri
We’re going to sit down, make a plan out.

11:43 – 11:46
Sherri
And then, of course, I just I get on the phone.

11:46 – 11:49
Sherri
And I I call pastors and I reach out on Facebook.

11:49 – 11:58
Sherri
Facebook has been an awesome way to reach people that, that, I don’t know, you know, we’re friends on Facebook…but…

11:58 – 12:00
Sherri
You really don’t know them.

12:00 – 12:03
Sherri
You haven’t met them, but they see something you post in.

12:03 – 12:05
Sherri
And they like it, and they join the group.

12:05 – 12:07
Sherri
And, so, word of mouth.

12:08 – 12:11
Brock
Yeah, I mean, and the, Northwest Arkansas community.

12:11 – 12:12

Brock
I mean, it’s fantastic.

12:12 – 12:17
Brock
Once you start like getting out there, people are so willing to, you know, to share, and to help and get involved.

12:20 – 12:23
Sherri
The hardest, most difficult thing in Northwest Arkansas, for me.

12:23 – 12:28
Sherri
Um, I, my music is mainly Southern Gospel.

12:28 – 12:32
Sherri
There’s not a Southern Gospel radio station in Northwest Arkansas.

12:32 – 12:33
Brock
Ok?

12:33 – 12:33
Brock
All right.

12:34 – 12:46
Sherri
So, I love it that that does become difficult because I don’t have a market here where I can just say, hey, here’s a new CD, play it on your station because we don’t have any here, right?

12:46 – 12:47
Sherri
Sarah, right?

12:48 – 12:52
Sherri

That’s been a little difficult, but hopefully this agent is going to help me out with that.

12:54 – 13:00
Brock
So, just in case anyone might be listening that, you know, may could either help with that or something else, like what’s a major challenge that you’re facing right now?

13:01 – 13:03
Sherri
Getting bookings.

13:04 – 13:05
Sherri
Just looking getting bookings.

13:05 – 13:05
Sherri
Yeah.

13:07 – 13:18
Brock
Yeah, so anybody that might be able to either share something like this and let either churches or maybe other organizations that need, you know, your services or your skills to come, that would be helpful to you.

13:19 – 13:20
Sherri
Yeah, that’d be great.

13:21 – 13:22
Brock
Ok, All right.

13:23 – 13:24
Brock
Well, where do you see yourself?

13:24 – 13:27
Brock
You know, in the next six months to a year, kinda, what’s your projection?

13:28 – 13:32
Sherri
My, my plan, my projection is is to get back out on the road of course. With COVID…

13:33 – 13:42
Sherri
You know, being lifted has made some opportunities, you know, is is, things will open back up and doors will begin to open for people to go to concerts

13:42 – 13:43
Sherri
Will be a thing again.

13:43 – 13:47
Sherri
So whether it’s an outdoor event or whatever, I plan to hit the road.

13:48 – 13:53
Sherri
I used to say, oh, 1 or 2 weekends a month, now, I’m saying 5 or 6 weekends a month.

13:56 – 14:03
Sherri
There’s not, but I would do it 5 or 6 weekends of month, because I just, I love it so much and I really like it.

14:03 – 14:16
Sherri
When I get an e-mail or a note in the mail, that said, you don’t know me but when you sang this song or when you shared this part of your story with us, it really meant a lot to me and gave me some hope.

14:16 – 14:22
Sherri
And, and when people reach out to me with, with their needs that I’m able to help, that’s where it’s at.

14:23 – 14:25
Sherri
It’s not about being on a stage.

14:25 – 14:37
Sherri
It’s not about being on a chart, which would be great, but no, you know, at my age, I don’t have you do good years of this voice left, so, you know, I just, I just want to help people.

14:37 – 14:38
Sherri
Aye.

14:39 – 14:40
Sherri
I want to give them hope.

14:40 – 14:41
Brock
Sure, yeah.

14:41 – 14:56
Brock
Well, and this is the first time that you and I have met like this, but, I mean, I think it is an inspiration, because since you brought it up, I think a lot of people that would be closer to your age would say, I don’t have, you know, the time, or the skills, or maybe they do have the skills, but they just like, I don’t know how to do that.

14:56 – 14:58
Brock
I don’t want to, you know, pursue that.

14:58 – 15:04
Brock
But, like, here, you are making something happen that you one, maybe never really thought would, but I mean, look at it.

15:04 – 15:05
Brock
So I think it is.

15:05 – 15:06
Brock
It’s a fantastic inspiration.

15:06 – 15:07
Brock
I think.

15:07 – 15:07
Brock
It’s awesome.

15:08 – 15:23
Sherri
1, one thing that I want to tell when you just made me think of it when you said that 1 of one of the things that I always thought, you know, oh, it would be so neat if I could be able to do this, but honestly, I was I was a Preacher’s kid.

15:24 – 15:32
Sherri
we knew what commodities were…powdered milk No, but I didn’t think we were poor because we had what we needed.

15:32 – 15:34
Sherri
And I was loved and taken care of.

15:34 – 15:40
Sherri
I don’t remember going without, even though I may have had home-made clothes.

15:40 – 15:41
Sherri
I don’t think of it like that.

15:41 – 15:43
Sherri
I had a wonderful childhood.

15:43 – 15:46
Sherri
I had a wonderful life growing up.

15:46 – 15:53
Sherri
But now, this year in November, Lord, willing and COVID doesn’t close this up again.

15:53 – 16:00
Sherri
I get to go to Israel and sing with with my agent with Redemption Worlds.

16:00 – 16:13

Sherri
So this girl that grew up with nothing that moved to Bella Vista and just kept working, you know, with her husband. here I am bucket list.?

16:13 – 16:20
Sherri
This wasn’t even on my bucket list to record some CDs, to go to Israel to sing in Jerusalem.

16:21 – 16:24
Sherri
Not even, it wasn’t even there.

16:24 – 16:26
Sherri
So yes, it, you’re never too old.

16:27 – 16:28
Sherri
It’s your never.

16:28 – 16:31
Sherri
You’re never too poor, you’re there.

16:31 – 16:38
Sherri
There’s no, there’s nothing that, if God has a plan for you, and you work at it, it can happen.

16:38 – 16:42
Sherri
And, even if you don’t work at it, it can happen, and then you have to work.

16:42 – 16:48
Brock
Yeah, so, this may not apply directly to you, since this is something you weren’t necessarily, you know, pursuing.

16:48 – 16:58
Brock
But what tips or advice could you give to someone who is interested in becoming a performer, whether it’s for profit or non-profit?

16:58 – 17:00
Brock
Kinda like you’ve gone through a lot of steps.

17:00 – 17:03
Brock
You know, what advice or tips can you give to someone who’s looking to do that?

17:05 – 17:08
Sherri
Practice: Sing every day.

17:08 – 17:10
Sherri
If you play an instrument, play every day.

17:12 – 17:18
Sherri
Keep at it, refine whatever talent that you have, get it, get it.

17:18 – 17:20
Sherri
Get it to be the best that you can be.

17:20 – 17:27
Sherri
And then just reach out to people and keep reaching out and send thank you notes.

17:27 – 17:34
Sherri
I can remember having a Facebook conversation with someone in Missouri that I didn’t know.

17:34 – 17:44
Sherri
I took a leap of faith and said, I would love to be able to ask you some questions because of what you’ve done, because of all the things that you’ve accomplished.

17:44 – 17:45
Sherri
Could I buy you lunch?

17:46 – 17:49
Sherri
And yeah, they said, sure.

17:49 – 17:50
Sherri
I’ll give you an hour.

17:51 – 17:53
Sherri
So I met him in Missouri.

17:53 – 17:55
Sherri
We had lunch at some little cafe.

17:55 – 17:57
Sherri
And that’s what he told me.

17:57 – 18:03
Sherri
He said, every everything that you do, as small as it may seem, send a thank you note.

18:03 – 18:11
Sherri
And so the first thing I did when I got home from that lunch, even though I bought lunch, I sent him a thank you card for an hour up to me.

18:11 – 18:15
Sherri
And back at the communication, going back and forth.

18:15 – 18:20
Sherri
He remembered that, that I listened, that I was doing some things that he told me to do.

18:20 – 18:23
Sherri
Called the people that he encouraged me to call.

18:23 – 18:28
Sherri
So, if you, if, if people give you names, to call, call them.

18:29 – 18:31
Sherri
Follow up with a thank you note.

18:31 – 18:33
Sherri
People don’t get stuff in the mail anymore.

18:33 – 18:38
Sherri
So, when I get something in the mail, I appreciate a whole bunch.

18:38 – 18:39
Brock
Awesome advice.

18:39 – 18:40
Brock
That’s fantastic.

18:40 – 18:42
Brock
Always follow through, keep following up.

18:42 – 18:45
Brock
And never forget to give that gratitude and appreciation.

18:46 – 18:50
Brock
And I think, specifically, in the mail is definitely very effective, particularly these days.

18:51 – 18:53
Sherri
And don’t let your head get big. Egos don’t work.

18:54 – 18:55
Brock
Right.

18:55 – 18:59
Sherri
I mean, egos, and we just, you know, if I’m in the same room with ego, I leave.

19:02 – 19:02
Brock
Understood.

19:03 – 19:03
Brock
Awesome.

19:03 – 19:04
Brock
Well, thank you so much.

19:04 – 19:09
Brock
